Summer Courses in General English Language


Study short courses in English in England during the summer months, July-September. BBSI is one of the most accredited business colleges and English schools in England.

Our summer courses in General English are modular in format so that students can join at any time during the summer and study for periods that suit their personal cicumstances.  We offer a choice of 4 study programmes that vary in intensity to suit particular needs:
 
      GE 20.  Twenty lessons (15 hours) weekly: Elementary-Advanced Level.
 
      GE 24.  Twenty-four lessons (18 hours) weekly: Elementary-Advanced Level.
   
      GE 30.  Thirty lessons (22.5 hours) weekly: Intermediate Level and above.
 
      GE 40.  Forty lessons (30 hours) weekly: Intermediate Level and above.
 
Courses can be studied for periods of between one and 12 weeks.
 
      Award.  BBSI Certificate in General English

      Additional Qualifications.  

      Students who attend the GE 30 and GE 40 courses for the full 12-week period can
      additionally prepare for a range of different University of Cambridge ESOL qualifications: 
      the First Certificate in English (FCE) , the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) , or 
      the Business English Certificate (BEC) .  Alternatively, GE 30 or GE 40 participants can 
      opt to join our ongoing weekly English Language Workshop (ELW) at a language level to
      suit their needs. 

      Entry Dates.  Entry to this flexible course is weekly from July to September 2010.  
      The first entry date for 2010 is 05 July and the last entry date is 13 September.

Minimum Age.  16 years

      University of Cambridge FCE (examination dates) 
      University of Cambridge CAE (examination dates)
      University of Cambridge BEC (examination dates)

Course Structure & Content
10 lessons weekly in grammar & functions
  2 lessons weekly in vocabulary development
  4 lessons weekly in reading & writing skills
  4 lessons weekly in speaking, listening & pronunciation skills
  4 lessons weekly (GE 24 only) in additional speaking, reading, writing 
      & listening skills 
10 lessons weekly (GE 30 & GE 40 only) selected from: 
      *  preparation for the University of Cambridge FCE
      *  preparation for the University of Cambridge CAE
      *  preparation for the University of Cambridge BEC
      *  English Language Workshop (ELW)
10 lessons weekly (GE 40 only) in discussion, conversation & current affairs
Course Objectives
*  to develop sound knowledge of English grammar
*  to acquire a broad range of relevant English vocabulary
*  to develop effective listening & reading skills
*  to build fluency in English communications generally
*  to maximise the learning experience in the UK
*  to prepare for the Cambridge ESOL examinations (GE 30 & GE 40 only)
*  to gain insights into the language & culture of the UK (GE 40 only)

+  Examination fess for external examinations are not included in the BBSI course fees.

BBSI English-language courses are designed and structured at different language levels to enable international students to develop all 4 English language skills simultaneously, as well as their knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary. Our system of learning also enables students at an Intermediate Level of English and above to progress to developing their communication skills in academic, vocational or professional context.
